Do I Need a Job to File for Chapter 13 Bankruptcy?

Yes. Chapter 13 is often called “Wage Earner Bankruptcy” because it allows debtors who have a steady source of income to pay part or all of their debts under protection of the bankruptcy court. If you file for Chapter 13 your property is not sold off to pay your debts. The terms of your debt are renegotiated with your creditors and a single monthly payment is established that you can afford. The amount that has to be repaid depends on your income level, and the amount and type of debts owed.
